Tom has served most of his career as an ecumenical, interfaith and Quaker peace and justice advocate at the state, regional and national level with a particular expertise in civil rights, welfare policy, criminal justice/penal reform, anti-war and disarmament issues.

He is a member of the Whidbey Island Friends Meeting and serves on the board of Quaker Voice, the statewide Friends peace and justice lobby based in Olympia.  He is a founder and emeritus board member of the bi-partisan "Civility First…So We Can Work Together" organization on Whidbey. He also promotes restorative justice programming through his consultative role with related coalitions in Island County. Tom's hobbies include writing, gardening, pickleball and pottery.

He lives in Clinton, WA, with his wife, Cathy Whitmire.
